Day 1: Kufstein - Achensee
Elevation Gain/Elevation Loss: 1,800/1,280 meters, Distance: 71.5 kilometers, difficult
From the historic small town of Kufstein, pedal along Thierseer Ache River and climb to Thiersee. Beautiful gravel roads will take you past Stallenalm Alpine Pasture Hut to Ackernalm (open and serviced in the summer months). A descent brings you to Erzherzog Johann Klause, from where well-maintained dirt roads gradually ascend to Guffert Hut in Rofan Mountain Range. Fuel up with food and drink before riding down to Maurach on the shores of Achensee Lake along long and broad gravel trails.
Day 2: Achensee - Scharnitz
Elevation Gain/Elevation Loss: 1,730/1,700 meters, Distance: 69 kilometers, difficult
From Achensee Lake a broad road with a gentle grade takes you to the end of the valley. At Gernalm the ascent to Plumsjoch Col and Plumssattel Saddle at an elevation of more than 1,600 meters begins. This is where you will find the Alpine pasture hut of the same name, which is a great place to gather some strength after the uphill effort. From the hut, a descent along broad gravel roads will bring you to Eng. This is where the ride resumes its second climb, taking you past Schwarzlacken Hut and along gravel trails up to Karwendelhaus Lodge. From there, it’s a long and beautiful downhill to the destination end of this day, Scharnitz.
Day 3: Scharnitz - Schwaz
Elevation Gain/Elevation Loss: 1,400/1,800 Meters, Distance: 77 kilometers, difficult
From Scharnitz, cycle along Drahnbach Brook on broad gravel trails with a gentle grade toward Seefeld. Having passed the riverside pastures, a long downhill on gravel takes you to the Inntal Valley Floor and to Zirl. From there, it’s easy riding along flat terrain to Kranebitten near Innsbruck, where the ascent past Höttinger Bild to Umbrüggler and Arzler Alm Alpine Pasture Huts begins (both huts are open in the summer). A descent brings you to Arzl and along Rum, Thaur, Absam and St. Michael to Schwaz.
Day 4: Schwaz - Kufstein
Elevation Gain/Elevation Loss: 1,950/1,980 meters, Distance: 88 kilometers, difficult
The last day’s ride begins with a climb to Jenbach and the shores of Achensee Lake. After a short, flat section, the ride resumes the second climb of the day. A forest road winds up to Kögelalm Alpine Pasture Hut, situated at an elevation of 1,430 meters. A long downhill on gravel trails takes you across Schönjochtal Valley to Steinberg am Rofan. From there, a gentle ascent past Hinterberg runs parallel to Steinberger Ache Creek to Pinegg and continues to Kaiserhaus Lodge. Traversing Riedenberger Wiesen meadows in a gentle grade, the route meanders past Riedenberg to picture-postcard Thiersee Lake. Quiet back roads meander across Marblinger Höhe with the loop bringing you back to Kufstein.
