Hohe Tauern National Park: Hinterbichl-Dorfertal-Johannishütte

You start this eventful moderately difficult mountain bike tour from Hinterbichl in the Hohe Tauern National Park. Via asphalt and gravel paths, this 15.5 kilometre long trail leads you in around 2.5 hours to the Johanneshütte alpinelodge (2,121 metres), which is open for business from the middle of June to the beginning of October.

Trail description

This route leads via an asphalt road from Gasthof Islitzer in the direction of Groderhof. Take the last bend to the left and ride straight on in the direction Wiesenkurz (gates), crossing the bridge on the way. Then turn left and ride onwards across the Venedigerbrücke (Venice Bridge) and up steep bends until you reach Gumpachkreuz (1,884 metres). From there, the trail continues in moderate inclines by the Ochsnerhütte alpine lodge (1,936 metres) and onto the end of the trail at the Johannishütte.
