Salvenrunde – Hohe Salve

The challenging Salven tour offers mountain bikers variety and fantastic views of the sunny side of the Hohe Salve, the most beautiful scenic mountain in Tirol. Additionally, you have the option of taking the first section of the cable car with your bike and equipment, which can save you a 1 hour ascent.

  • There are a number of options to stop for a bite to eat and refreshment along the tour. Try an alpine breakfast at Gasthof Tenn or some of our regional specialities.
  • You have a view of more than 70 peaks that are three thousand metres high – a great view!
  • The Salvenkirche (Church of Salve) is situated at 1,829 metre above sea level – the peak of the Hohen Salve – and is the highest church of pilgrimage in Austria. The church is dedicated to John the Baptist.
  • Innumerable roses in bloom in Rosendorf Itter, their fragrance blending harmoniously with the smells of mountain pastures.

Trail description

This round tour starts at the tourist information office in Hopfgarten and before cable car valley station takes Lindrainweg following the sign “Rigi, Hohe Salve”(MTB route 269). You will ride past the Sunnseithüttn (886 metres), the middle station of the cable car and Gasthof Tenn (1,165 metres). At the crossing follow the road to the left, and after a short distance, you will come to a steep gravel path via a farm and ultimately reach the highest point of the tour.

After a few metres, you will pass a forest trail that will bring you uphill via a few bends to Rigi (1,533 metres). On the way down however, the trail goes to Itter and from there back to Hopfgarten via Hacha.

You will negotiate 731 metres above sea level on this challenging tour, and with assistance uphill 180 metres. The tour, which consists of 15.3 kilometres, should take about 2-4 hours to complete.
