Gravelbike Ride
in the Lechtal Valley

Home to one of the last remaining untamed rivers in Europe, the Lech Valley in the far west of Tirol is an excellent place for gravel riding. This ride takes in not only the river itself but also plenty of tough climbs into the mountains. Much of the terrain is gravel, with short sections along the Lech Cycle Trail on both sides of the Lech river between the villages of Häselgehr and Weißenbach. In the last third of the ride there is a section through the forest where bikers can pick up some serious speed.

Trail description

This thrilling ride is ideal way to start the season. With just 240 vertical metres of climbing, this 40-kilometre route runs along the valley floor of the imposing Lechtal Valley with its rushing river. From the starting point in Stanzach, the trail leads mainly on solid gravel in a southerly direction towards the turquoise-blue water of the Lech river before winding its way across picturesque pastures and through mossy forests. There are several vantage points along the way where it is well worth stopping to enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains. Just as varied as the views is the terrain, from the tarmac of the Lech Cycle Path to gravel trail along the banks of the river to soft ground in the meadows and forests. The villages of Häselgehr, Elmen and Stanzach are ideal for a well-deserved stop. Thanks to the figure-of-eight-shaped route, the ride can be started, extended or shortened as desired.
