Departing from Gasthof Post in the center of St. Jakob in Haus, this interpretive loop trail is a wonderful way to explore the natural beauty of the Buchensteinwand. The trail has a gentle grade and blazes with a bounty of seasonal wildflowers and scenic views of the entire region. There is varied ecology to savour throughout the 9-kilometer long trail that takes some three hours to complete and reaches its highest elevation at 1,462 meters.
- You will encounter four interpretive signs along the trail to help you identify the seemingly infinite array of peaks spread out before. Moreover, there are interpretive signs featuring pictures that illustrate the native flora of the area. Trees, shrubs, bushes and plants are labeled for the public’s edification.
- On the upland plateau of Buchensteinwand is a little glassy tarn that, in the right weather, reflects the surrounding mountains beautifully.
