Alpine Walk
Feldalm

With its little copse of alpine cabins, the Feldalm looks just like an alpine farm would have done half a century ago. Nevertheless, time has not stood still here: Feldalm is one of the few organically certified community-alp farms. Farmers are not allowed to feed their cattle conventionally on an organic alpine farm, as all the milk ends up together in the same dairy cauldron. Feldalm processes the milk from around 70 cows, some of which belong to the family of Heinz Gstir, a famous Tyrolean organic pioneer and founder of the "Bio vom Berg” brand. This traditionally run alpine farm does not serve food, but if you ask nicely, the farmer might give you a glass of organic buttermilk. The excellent organic “Almkäse - Alpine Cheese” is available from Hatzenstädt organic dairy in Niederndorferberg (Gränzing 22).
