Situated in the Kitzbühel Alps, the Großer Galtenberg is at 2,424 metres above sea level the highest mountain in the Alpbach Valley. It is widely considered to have some of the most beautiful views of any peak in the region. In the months of June and July walkers can look forward to wonderful pink alpine roses covering the meadows. On the way down it is worth stopping off at the Farmkehr-Alm hut serving delicious local food. From start to finish this hike measures 16 kilometres in length and takes roughly 9 hours to complete. There is plenty of vertical ascent, so walkers need good overall fitness. However, the trails are in good condition and there are no difficult sections.
