The 200-metre-long hanging bridge in the village of Holzgau is quite literally the highlight of this easy snowshoe walk in the heart of the Lechtal Valley. The bridge spans the Höhenbachschlucht gorge at up to 110 metres above the ground and is the longest hanging footbridge in Austria which is freely accessible to the public. Walkers can also look forward to the dense Mühlwald forest, the sunny slopes at Schiggen and the intricately painted farmhouses in Holzgau, where there are also a number of places serving food and drink.

Trail description
The hike starts in the middle of the village near the tourist information office. Walk along the road heading east before crossing a bridge over the stream. Turn left immediately so to avoid continuing along the main road. Go through Oberholzgau; at the end of the village, after a short detour to the main road, the route turns left and heads uphill. Follow the road through the settlement of Oberwinkel and then up along a series of switchback corners. The route continues westwards across the sunny slopes of Schiggen and then onto the hanging footbridge. It is worth taking a short break there to enjoy the view of the Höhenbachschlucht gorge. Watch out for skiers as you complete the final section down the western slope of the Gföllberg mountain and ski resort.
