Snowshoe Walk
Markbachjoch - Kasalm

This easy snowshoe walk begins at the top of the Markbachjochbahn cable car and leads to the Kasalm hut before returning along the same route. Its high altitude ensures good snow conditions throughout the season. Walkers can look forward to fine views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The nearby Markbachjochalm hut is a good place for a rest.

Trail description

Take the Markbachjochbahn cable car from Niederau up onto the mountain to reach the starting point of this walk at 1,460 metres above sea level. From there, head along the mountain ridge in a westerly direction. Hike past the Markbachjochalm hut and follow the signs to the Kasalm/Brixentaler Holzalm. The trail turns slightly to the south and divides after a while. Walkers can take either the upper or the lower trail; both lead to the Kasalm (not open in winter). Depending on which trail you have chosen, take either the same one or the other one back to the fork and then hike along the way you came back to the starting point.
