If waking up in an igloo or with close-ups of Austria’s tallest mountain sounds like your kind of vacation, then we’ve got five ideas you won’t soon forget. A different twist on wintertime slumber, these amazing places to stay in Tirol are a start to get your imagination going.

1 Igloo at Hochötz Snow Village

Have you ever dreamed of spending the night inside a snow fort? Part adventure, part romance, the “1st Austrian Igloo Village” is made entirely from snow and ice and illuminates dark and cold winters. The Candlelight Dinner for lovers and the Cheese Fondue Night are their highlights. This frozen „village“—complete with on-site lounge, ice bar, and heated toilets— will charm those looking for fantastic extras with its unique and lovely details.

2  Venet Gipfelhütte

Are you looking for a place where the slope is literally on your doorstep? Located next to the gondola’s top station at an elevation of 2,212 meters, Venet Summit Hut offers convenient ski-in/ski-out access and stunning 360-degree views of the lofty Ötztal Alps. Up here, night sky twinkles with stars and visitors can view them up close from the new observatory. If you like a little luxury, book a room with a soaking tub by the window.

3 Dolomitenhütte

Now that’s something to tell the grandkids: At Dolomiten Hut, you can sleep in a contemporary double room at this larch-clad cabin that is spectacularly located on a promontory. The room named “Adlerhorst”, which translates to eyrie, boasts spectacular floor to ceiling panoramic views that are astoundingly beautiful. The serenity of the larch-clad cabin is continued into the interior. In the morning, you can get back down to the valley on a sled.

4 Adler Lounge

Iconic Adler Lounge offers lifestyle interiors that are bright, bold and inviting. With its walls of sheer glass, it affords stunning views of sixty (!) mountain peaks exceeding 3,000 meters, known as „Three-Thousanders“ locally. The premiere showing is Großglockner, Austria’s tallest mountain. After an invigorating day on the slopes of Großglockner Resort, step into consummate luxury and fine dining at Adler Lounge, which is an elevated place to spend the night in the true sense of the word.

5 Schneekarhütte

Situated at an elevation of 2,250 meters atop Penken Mountain in Mayrhofen, Schneekar Hut offers a one-off lodging experience in a futuristic pyramid clad with shingles. The 19-square-meter tower suite with 180-degree views of the glorious Zillertal Alps is a place unlike anything you have ever experienced. Upping the ante in slopeside lodging and dining, Schneekar Hut is the perfect place to pop the question or to share an ultra-romantic experience with your loved one.
