The flying areas around Lake Achensee are very thermally active. On the Karwendel side, beginners will find the best slope gliding conditions, while long cross-country flights are also possible from the Mauritzalm in the Rofan. What they all have in common is the fascinating view of Lake Achensee, which lies like a fjord in the mountains.
Lienz in East Tyrol is known for its weather stability, good upslope winds and excellent thermals. Experienced paragliders take off from Steinermandl at an altitude of 2,200 metres with a fantastic view of the Dolomites. Flights over 4,000 metres up to South Tyrol or the Grossglockner are also possible.
Kössen is considered the cradle of alpine paragliding - on the Unterberghorn you will not only find the best thermal conditions, but also an excellent infrastructure. The Wildschönau is one of the most popular paragliding regions in Tyrol, with ideal flying and wind conditions, as the high valley is well shielded from strong winds. The take-off site is located on the Markbachjoch at 1,500 metres above sea level, accessible by cable car from May to October, and the landing site is centrally located in Niederau at 828 metres. The Wildschönau flying school offers courses on one of the best training grounds in Tyrol and has already successfully trained thousands of paragliders.
