Who these days still knows how to scythe high grass on a mountain meadow? Which herbs can be used to help a cut heal more quickly? Community projects in the mountains are a win-win situation - participants learn useful things while helping out local farmers.
Many of the volunteers who travel to the mountains of Tirol each year to help local people look after pastures, meadows, farms and nature reserves in the Alps listen very carefully when farmers share their extensive knowledge about alpine nature and farming in the mountains. There is something special about spending time out in nature, working the land in the mountains, that brings people back summer after summer. For many guests, the community projects organised by local associations are a unique chance to enjoy the mountains of Tirol while at the same time making an important contribution to local life. Many of the families who benefit from these initiatives are hugely grateful for the hard work and commitment of the volunteers.
