A chalet or alpine hut is a holiday home in the mountains that reflects the alpine style of the region. From a simple alpine hut to a luxurious chalet, what these holiday homes have in common is that they are typically made of wood. In most cases, a chalet or mountain hut is self-catering, but many accommodations offer a breakfast service and other culinary options for an extra fee.

Unlike stand-alone huts, which were once used to live and work in the mountains and have now been turned into holiday homes, a chalet or hut village is a newly built holiday accommodation in which several chalets or huts can be found. In addition to the amenities at your own holiday home, chalet and hut villages often offer additional facilities and services, such as a swimming or spa area, restaurants, a playground and a weekly activity programme for children.

While an alpine hut is usually smaller, more traditional and simply furnished, a chalet is in many cases more luxurious and offers several bedrooms and bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and balcony and terrace spread over several floors. Chalets often also have their own spa area, such as a private sauna or an outdoor hot tub.
