The Fauré Quartet opens the Kufstein concert season 2026/27 with Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" in an arrangement for piano quartet. Violin, viola, cello, and piano allow the famous work to emerge anew between chamber music precision, great dynamism, and surprising colors.

Sound images in a new perspective
Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" is among the most impressive works in music history. Inspired by the works of his deceased friend Viktor Hartmann, Mussorgsky created a musical tour through highly diverse visual worlds. The recurring "Promenade" connects poetic, quirky, and monumental scenes into a work full of imagination and expressiveness.
The Fauré Quartet opens up a new perspective. In the arrangement for piano quartet, the familiar sound images are concentrated on four instruments, gaining immediate intimacy. Violin, viola, cello, and piano enter into an intense dialogue with one another, making colors, contrasts, and details audible that emerge anew in this ensemble.
An evening of concerts that allows for a fresh discovery of a well-known masterpiece while also showcasing the richness of sound that can arise in chamber music.
