In his tutoring cabaret in Political Education, political scientist Markus Pausch takes on the role of the fictional Hugo Valerian, who aims to win the audience over to his movement "Onwards and Upwards" with seductive speeches. He employs the entire repertoire of populism: from lies and half-truths to conspiracy theories and simple solutions to complex problems. However, his speeches do not go unchallenged.
In his dual role, the political scientist analyzes the politician he embodies and his methods. A duel between seduction and analysis, emotion and reason. Following the hour-long cabaret with "Hugo Valerian," there will be a discussion with the democracy researcher about current political issues. Markus Pausch is a democracy researcher and has been performing as a cabaret artist since the 1990s. In his new program, he combines political scientific analysis with satire and tries to engage the audience in democracy and politics.
