Description

Bold pop and unabashed indie

FILIAH writes songs as if someone had turned on a bedside lamp in a dark room, awakening feelings one didn’t even know one needed. The singer-songwriter, who grew up in a small town and now lives in Vienna, packages intimate storytelling into catchy melodies and possesses an impressive voice that can sound delicate and immediate in one moment, and powerful and uplifting in the next. After deep roots in singer-songwriter folk and a long, three-year hiatus, the EP "Sad Girl With A Punchline," released in 2025 by Ink Music, was a visibly relieved shout of liberation. An extraordinarily bold pop design for local standards, unafraid of and not denying its own past and origins. Lyrically shaped, gentle yet strong, seemingly quiet yet self-assured; despite its seriousness, it is often humorous. Music and lyrics as catharsis and (self-)therapy, especially on stage.

Also supporting: JANKA – the latest indie discovery from Tyrol. JANKA finds the extraordinary in the mundane – it’s about everyday emotional outbursts, dying houseplants, mobile providers, or a dislike for olives. The four-member band from Innsbruck wraps approachable German-language lyrics in playful arrangements with driving brass melodies and a lot of lightness. Sometimes carried by casual disco-funk rhythms, sometimes influenced by the Hamburg school, other times with a touch of bossa nova – a mix that gives the sound autonomy and clearly sets it apart from the polished German pop. Whether on small stages or in front of large audiences, JANKA invites listeners into a world full of unabashed honesty.
