Gefährliche Liebschaften
Harald Windisch – Speaker
Anne Marie Dragosits – Harpsichord
The epistolary novel Les Liaisons dangereuses (Dangerous Liaisons) by Pierre-Ambroise-François Choderlos de Laclos is a key work of 18th-century French literature and a scandal novel of libertinism. At its center are desire, control, intrigue, and power games between men and women. To this day, the unvarnished portrayal of morals at the end of absolutism transports readers back to the decadent atmosphere of the French nobility just before the Revolution.
On this evening, Anne Marie Dragosits and Harald Windisch will take the audience into this era. The musical "reading" – a sequence of pieces de clavecin (harpsichord pieces) composed for the novel by contemporaries of Choderlos de Laclos – will be contrasted with excerpts from the novel, allowing for an even more intense experience of the text. According to Dragosits, the male perspective contrasts with the female. With the help of music, the characters of the story are characterized. Thus, tender and dramatic pieces stand side by side; some describe external events, while others express inner emotional states. A unique experience.
