What happens to a war when hardly anyone is watching? ZEIT reporter Wolfgang Bauer reports at the Kufsteiner Night Conversation about his research in Afghanistan and Sudan. The focus is on people whose stories are rarely mentioned in the daily news flood, and the question of what responsibility journalism has when the world's attention has long moved on.

Wolfgang Bauer is a reporter for the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT and reports from crisis and war zones around the world. A particular focus of his journalistic work is Afghanistan, which he has traveled to repeatedly over many years. He has also reported on-site from Ukraine and Sudan.
For his reports, Bauer has received multiple awards, including the Theodor Wolff Prize and the Prix Bayeux Calvados Normandie for war reporting. His book “Across the Sea” has been translated into several languages.
In his book “At the End of the Road,” he focused on Afghanistan and the question of why the West failed there after two decades of military and political intervention.
