The Pitztal Wild Face is a timed race that is not judged by the line ridden, as is usually the case at Freeride World Qualifier events. There will be a competition run on the north face of the Mittagskogel and 80 riders, plus the 5 winners from last year, can take part.
The Pitztal Wild Face is a timed race that is not judged by the line ridden, as is usually the case at Freeride World Qualifier events. There will be a competition run on the north face of the Mittagskogel and 80 riders, plus the 5 winners from last year, can take part. Race numbers will be allocated at the Riders Meeting after the obligatory course inspection the day before. There are 4 different categories:Ski Men and Women, and Snowboard Men and Women. Since 2013 , the Pitztal Wild Face has been organised under the umbrella of the Freeride World Tour as a Freeride World Qualifier competition.
The Pitztal Wild Face is a 2-star qualifier event of the Freeride World Tour, but is an exception due to its unusual format. Depending on their category and ranking, the men's and women's skiers and snowboarders can collect points for the Freeride World Qualifier series, which they need on the one hand to get a starting place in qualifier competitions in a higher star category and on the other hand to be the best skier or snowboarder in a winter's qualifier series in the Freeride World Tour the following year. With its unusual race format, the Pitztal Wild Face is unique among the Freeride World Qualifier events. The race is only timed and the placings are not determined by points awarded by judges as is usually the case.
