On Sunday, March 22, 2026, at 11 a.m., the cultural program of the city of Kufstein invites you to a special matinee at the Funplexx cinema: Rudolf Wallner presents his new music documentary “Romeo and Juliet in Music” - a tribute to Shakespeare's most famous love story and its musical traces through the centuries.
The tragic story of the lovers from Verona has inspired composers for over 250 years. The opera singer, author, and long-time music educator Rudolf Wallner explores how differently Georg Benda, Vincenzo Bellini, Hector Berlioz, Peter Iljitsch Tchaikovsky, Sergei Prokofiev, and Leonard Bernstein have set the fate of the lovers to music. With excerpts from film and audio recordings, exciting background information, and fine humor, Wallner invites you on a captivating journey through music history.
The matinee impressively shows how Shakespeare's timeless drama has repeatedly found new musical forms - from the sensitive 18th century to modernity.
