Description

Description:
The Tannheimer Valley has long been known among cyclists, as the peloton of the Tour of Austria passed through the valley in 2001. In 2005, the professional cyclists of the Tour of Bavaria entered Tyrolean territory during the opening stage and were rewarded with the Tannheimer Valley and Jungholz mountain climbs. Even the pros were struck by the scenic beauty of “arguably the most beautiful high valley in Europe.” Lush green meadows, Lake Haldensee, and a beautiful mountain backdrop accompanied the professional cyclists along their race route. As a result, the Tannheimer Valley has also established itself as an ideal region for targeted training or extended tours. “The Tannheimer Valley is an ideal starting point for long road bike tours to the surrounding regions, such as Lake Constance or the Arlberg,” says Michael Keller, managing director of the Tannheimer Valley Tourism Association and former national mountain bike coach for Austria. In addition to being an ideal starting point, the Tannheimer Valley offers cyclists a wide range of accommodations. From 5-star hotels to private rooms, you can choose the lodging that suits you best. After a beautiful ride, relax and recharge your batteries. — The Tannheimer ValleyDirections:
Start at the tourist information office in Tannheim and head east, past Nesselwängle over the Gaicht Pass to Weißenbach. At the roundabout, turn right into the Lech Valley, past Forchach, and continue on the gently ascending B 198 to Häselgehr. In Häselgehr, turn left; this is followed by an 8-kilometer climb with a 300-meter elevation gain to Gramais. Once in Gramais, follow the same route back to Weißenbach, and at the roundabout, turn right into the Tannheim Valley and back to the starting point.Tip:
We highly recommend stopping for a meal at a restaurant in the Lech Valley—be sure to try the local specialties.Safety guidelines:
The German Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) apply. General, valid, and customary rules of conduct.
Please note that road cycling may involve an increased risk of accidents and injuries. Even with careful route planning, a basic risk always remains. Preparing for a ride through endurance sports, appropriate training and education, as well as personal caution, reduces the risk of accidents and other hazards.Equipment:
Personal equipment must be safe, in good working order, and meet the applicable technical standards. All road cyclists are advised to research their planned routes in specialized literature or on-site.
A full set of road cycling gear is strongly recommended, even for experienced riders!Additional information:
