Description

Departing from the mountain station, the beautifully situated Knappensteig trail leads to the right and past the Arzjoch chair lift. Taking in small streams and lush meadows of Alpine flowers, this route offers constant views of Kellerjoch saddle as it leads you straight to the visitor mine at 1783 m. Guided tours are available from early July to late September (every day except Saturday). From the visitor mine, hike uphill across Alpine pastures and past blocks of rock to reach the junction for Onkeljoch saddle/Gartalm Hochleger via Falschegg/Spieljochbahn mountain station. You can then begin your descent to the Spieljoch summit cross (1920 m) and then along a wide hiking trail back to the Spieljochbahn cable car. This route comes highly recommended even without a visit to the mine!
