Climbing Arena Kaiserwinkl
The Kaiserwinkl climbing arena, built in 2011 by the Walchsee mountain club, offers three via ferratas on good rock. The 70 to 300 metre long routes are D/E and interspersed with difficult, sometimes even overhanging sections. The Bergkameraden via ferrata requires a good level of fitness and rewards you with marvellous views.
The Ottenalm-Direttissima, the most difficult of the three routes, leads vertically uphill. Continuous steel cables and two suspension bridges secure the two climbs, which have no emergency exit. From a rope bridge over a gorge - aptly named ‘Schluchtenscheißerl’ - climbers have a clear view of the natural landmark Hochmoor Schwemm.
The Walchseerunde (C) is ideal for beginners as a practice via ferrata that does not lead all the way up to the summit ridge. The descent from the Bergkameraden via ferrata and from the Ottenalm Direttissima leads along the ridge path of the Harauer Spitze.
Complete via ferrata equipment including helmet is required for all three routes, a safety rope is recommended for children and beginners. The climbing arena can be used free of charge and is accessible from Easter to 1 November. The cosy Ottenalm is best reached from Walchsee in a 40-minute hike or by mountain bike.
