The local museum showcases the folk culture of the Zillertal Valley as well as the history of the Christmas carol "Silent Night".
The museum run by the local heritage and museum association in the Widumspfiste focuses on documenting the history of the Zillertal singing families and the associated spread of the song "Silent Night" around the world. Through images, songbooks, exhibits, and documents, visitors can trace the travels of the singers across the globe. By Christmas 2018, the song had been sung for 200 years. It is now sung in 250 languages and dialects!
Tools and objects of old crafts such as quill embroiders, carpenters, blacksmiths, monastery work, coopers, wheelwrights, hat makers, or rope makers can be seen. We showcase a "Mozart organ" from Hall in Tyrol and explain its history. One room is dedicated to the Tux-Zillertal cattle breed, which was considered extinct around 1970 and is now being successfully bred by farmers.
In 2004, the large exhibition on mining and metallurgy was added in the newly constructed basement.
