On a length of 1.5 km, the Schinderbach digs from the Blue Grotto through the rocky ridges of the Imster Mittelgebirgsterrassen to the Johanneskirche. (Altitude difference 250 m).
For geologists, this reflects millions of years of geological history, but also those who are less concerned with geology, the beauty of the Rose Garden canyon and the wealth of flowers, animals and stones in this gorge in Imst marvel. Alpine plants and animals, due to the special conditions in the Rosengarten Gorge, rise much lower than their actual distribution. The humid and cool climate promotes the growth of ferns and mosses, one encounters here a unique vegetation. Here, nature was left to its free dynamics, you can see its true face. Noteworthy: The entrance is located in the center of the city. Blue grotto The special feature of the Blue Grotto is the story of its origins: Already 2000 years ago, during Roman times, people worked diligently and searched for silver-bearing galena. The geologist Peter Gstrein suspects that the fire-burning method was already exploited in the first centuries after Christ's birth; The rocks of the rock became brittle as a result of the heating and could thus be cut off more easily. The result was the Blue Grotto, which is probably unique in Tyrol in its kind. Once in Hoch-Imst, you can either hike back to Imst via the Wetterkreuz or continue your hike with the Imst cable cars and the Alpine Coaster in Hoch-Imst.
