Tyrol's nature parks and national park in winter

Away from the major Tyrolean winter sports centres, you can experience winter in a completely different way: intense and close to nature, quiet and mysterious. The Tyrolean nature parks and the Hohe Tauern National Park invite you to take part in guided animal track hikes or full moon snowshoe tours during the cold season.

In winter, the Tiroler Lech Nature Park is surrounded by a glistening blanket of snow, frozen water and snow-covered trees. Its animal inhabitants are hibernating - but not all of them. Join a nature park guide on a search for tracks in the snowy forests.

When the moon is in its full splendour, you can set off on snowshoes through the snow-covered winter landscape of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Sparkling snow crystals in the moonlight and the stillness of the night create a mystical atmosphere on the guided night-time hikes through the national park.

On the guided "Winter Gspiar" hikes in the Kaunergrat Nature Park, you can develop your own personal feeling for nature in winter. On snowshoes, you walk through the quiet, untouched winter landscape and learn the right behaviour towards the animals from the experienced "Gspiar" guide. After all, they are hibernating and don't want to be disturbed.

More Information

Despite hibernation, there is a lot going on on and under the white blanket of snow in the cold season. The Nature Watch Guides in the Hohe Tauern National Park show you how fauna and flora spend the winter. Equipped with high-quality Swarovski binoculars, they go in search of traces in the winter landscape. The guides point out unique natural phenomena or find tracks and shy wild animals that you would certainly have overlooked without them.

More Information

In the Karwendel Nature Park, the best way to explore the unspoilt winter landscape away from the hiking trails is on snowshoes. On guided winter nature tours at Lake Achensee, you can observe the active animals and birds through binoculars, follow the tracks in the snow and learn a lot about animals and plants.

More Information

When the sun goes down and the sky above the mountain panorama of the Lienz Dolomites turns yellow-orange, the snow-covered Hohe Tauern National Park has a magical atmosphere. Hike with a ranger on snowshoes along the ridge of the Steinermandl and discover animal tracks here and there in the snow.

More Information

The best way to experience the magic of winter is on a winter or snowshoe hike in the Hall-Wattens region, when the fresh snow crunches under your feet and you breathe in the cold winter air. The Karwendel Nature Park invites you on guided winter hikes to discover Tyrol's beauty in peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the ski slopes.
