Scarlatti-Henze-Bach-Da Milano-Morricone
Under the title VIRTUOSO, guitarist and composer Stephan Stiens is creating concerts in summer in Tirol/Carinthia and Veneto in selected churches of these regions. Highly captivating musical art experiences occur, arising from the concentrated splendor and acoustics of the churches and the highly sensitive playing of the artist. Stephan Stiens juxtaposes works by Johann Sebastian Bach with compositions from the guitar repertoire that originate in Italy or are inspired by Italy. Contrary to all fashionable trends of loud and garish sounds, a special tension arises for the listener from the contradiction between the seemingly soft tone of the guitar and the grandeur of the spaces. Stephan Stiens skillfully opens up space for music through his approachable knowledgeable moderation. The audience has been attending the concerts for years and provides enthusiastic support. The critics praised the ...touching intimacy ... of his playing.
Stephan Stiens was born in 1961 in Wuppertal. He studied concert guitar at the MOZARTEUM in Salzburg and graduated with honors and a commendation for exceptional artistic achievement. His repertoire includes essential works from all periods, including excursions to the Renaissance lute and the electric guitar. As the leader of the GUITAR COMPANY and as an accompanist, he is highly regarded, as well as an interpreter of new and contemporary music. His great artistic curiosity also leads him to projects with singers, actors, dancers, and photographers. For some time now, Stephan Stiens has also been working as a composer with selected works for the guitar in various ensembles.
