Description

Invited by a mysterious friend, a film crew embarks on a journey through a hidden jenish Europe, stretching from the dusty suburbs of Savoy to the forests of Carinthia. Young and old voices share stories of jenish culture, music, and life, then and now. The bond between all these people is the wounds of the past, but also the indomitable love for freedom. Afterward, a discussion with Mag. Michael Haupt, head of the Jenish Archive Tyrol – Initiative Minorities in Tyrol.
The PATSCHEN.KINO team has been presenting special films in cozy locations since 2010, films that usually only run in program cinemas – since 2025 at the TOWN HALL ROOFTOP!

Note: The Jenish are members or descendants of a population group with its own language, culture, and history, predominantly living a semi-nomadic lifestyle. They mainly reside in Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria, and other parts of the world. Their total number is estimated to be several hundred thousand. In France, they are called Yéniche, in England Yenish; in Austria Karrner or Laninger, in Central Switzerland Fecker, and in Eastern Switzerland Kessler. JENISCH is the self-designation.
