A distance of 525 kilometers and 14,500 vertical meters in around 24 hours: What sounds impossible is achieved by a few professional cyclists every year - in the toughest one-day bike race in the world.
Every year, up to 50 top racing cyclists take part in the "Race across the Alps" in Nauders on the Reschen Pass. The cycling race in the border triangle is considered the toughest one-day race in the world. They have to cover 525 kilometers and 14,500 meters of altitude in a maximum of 32 hours. However, the self-imposed target for most riders is 24 hours, with the best even completing the route in around 21.5 hours.
The long-distance specialists ride non-stop through the three countries of Italy, Switzerland and Austria, accompanied by a support crew. The route roughly corresponds to the Dreiländergiro, the Ötztaler Cycle Marathon and the Dolomites Marathon combined. The riders are regularly pushed to their physical and mental limits.
