His grandfather Slavko Avsenik invented the Oberkrainer sound and made music history!
Countless melodies from the inexhaustible Avsenik song treasure have become evergreen classics of folk music. Foremost among them is “Das Trompetenecho,” one of the most frequently performed instrumental pieces in the German-speaking music scene for decades and the theme song of the legendary “Musikantenstadl,” but also “Auf der Autobahn,” “Es ist so schön, ein Musikant zu sein,” “Slowenischer Bauerntanz,” “Hinterm Hühnerstall,” and many more.
The musical triumph of the “Original Oberkrainer” lasted almost half a century. In the 90s, the group withdrew from active stage performances. However, the story of the Oberkrainer sound was far from finished:
Sašo Avsenik has now been carrying on the musical heritage for over 15 years: sympathetic, authentic, and full of a sense of tradition! The extraordinary musicality of the musicians and their joy of playing emphasize: “It is so beautiful to be a musician!”
