Solar Eclipse
On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, there will be a partial solar eclipse at sunset.
The beginning of the solar eclipse is around 7:25 p.m. The peak will occur at approximately 8:18 p.m. At this point, the sun will be covered by almost 90%. Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the sun - still eclipsed - will set.
The Tyrolean Zugspitze Railway will operate on August 12, 2026, from 8:40 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 20-minute intervals & from 7:00 p.m. at 30-minute intervals. Last descent at 9:30 p.m., with good weather due to the starry night, last descent at 11:30 p.m.
Starry Night
Every year in the first half of August, a well-known meteor shower returns, known as the Perseids, illuminating the night sky.
Assuming suitable weather, many shooting stars can be expected in the Zugspitz sky.
If the weather forecasts for stargazing are optimal, the Tyrolean Zugspitze Railway will operate on August 12 or on the alternate date of August 14, 2026 (information available on the website from August 10) from 8:40 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at 20-minute intervals & from 7:00 p.m. at 30-minute intervals. Last descent at 11:30 p.m.
