Event Tarrenzer Schafschied

Tarrenz, on 13. Sept 2026

Tarrenz Sheep Farewell

Every year on the second Sunday in September, the whole of Tarrenz celebrates the return of 1000 sheep and lambs with a big folk festival. The Tarrenzer Schafschied is one of the largest and most idyllic cattle drives in the Tyrolean Oberland. Thousands of spectators are present when the animals return to their home stables. For this purpose, they are herded together in the idyllic Bangert, a large meadow with many fruit trees, behind Gasthof Sonne. At around 1 p.m., the huge flock of sheep then parades through the village. Particularly beautiful are the locations with a view of the narrow Trujegasse, which is flooded by a veritable sea of white sheep. The herd and shepherds then turn onto the main street, from where the procession makes its way to the sun garden.
