It's a first in the triathlon world: a gravel triathlon is taking place for the first time in German-speaking countries - and Tyrol is kicking things off. Away from the asphalt, on gravel paths and trails around one of the clearest alpine lakes in the country, a new competition format is being created.
Lake Heiterwanger See is located at 994 meters above sea level - and that's where the adventure begins. Swimming in the crystal-clear mountain water is also one of the highest triathlon swimming competitions in Austria.
What comes next is new: the bike course leads through the gravel region around the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena. The highlights are natural gravel paths, impressive views and challenging altitude meters. The running course completes the circle and circles Lake Heiterwanger See on slightly hilly trail and forest terrain.
There are two main distances to choose from: the short distance (1,500 meter swim, 44 km gravel, 13 km trail) and the sprint distance (750 meters, 22 km, 6.5 km) - both also available as a relay competition. There is also an Aquabike and a BikeRun competition, also in both distances.
