Description

The Oberbrunnalm embodies everything that characterises a real alpine hut: Deep in the heart of the Karwendel Nature Park, hearty Tyrolean "Brettljausen" await hungry hikers in the traditional wooden hut, and the homemade bacon and cheese dumplings also taste simply "sakrisch guat" at 1,523 metres above sea level. After a hearty snack with a view of Hohe Munde and Erlspitzgruppe, the cosy sun terrace with homemade cakes, aromatic coffee and freshly tapped refreshments invites you to relax. The alp is only managed in the summer months and then offers an authentic alpine experience.

STARTING POINT
From the Gießenbach car park (between Seefeld and Scharnitz), which is subject to a charge, a signposted forest path leads to the alpine pasture, initially somewhat steeper, then flatter. If you prefer not to drive, simply travel by bus and train (to Scharnitz or Giessenbach) and then start directly from Giessenbach station to the charming Oberbrunnalm.

Please note: The railway crossing in Gießenbach is closed from 12 July to 5 August 2025. Normally, bikers and hikers are allowed to pass the construction site. A full closure of the crossing is planned for the following days: Saturday, 19 July; Tuesday, 22 July; Saturday, 26 July; and Monday, 4 August 2025 – passing is not possible during daytime on these days. To reach the Eppzirltal, the Eppzirler Alm, and Oberbrunnalm on these days, hikers can take the trail by Mühlberg starting from Scharnitz, and from Seefeld the Hirnweg hiking path is recommended. On the days of total closure, bikers may exceptionally use the Hirnweg directly from Bodenalm to the valley entrance at Gießenbach.

SUMMER TOURS

  • Hike to the Oberbrunnalm. From the parking spaces in the hamlet of Gießenbach in Scharnitz, hike south on a wide forest path through the wild and romantic Gießenbach valley. After about six kilometres, you reach the rustic Oberbrunnalm via serpentines.
    To the hike
  • Gleirschklamm. The picturesque Gleirschklamm gorge is considered one of the most impressive steep gorges in the Karwendel. In the past, the torrent was used to transport drift wood, but today you can enjoy the wildly romantic gorge on a summer hike to the Oberbrunnalm: From Scharnitz via the Isarsteig, past the Scharnitzer Alm and via the Nederweg into the Gleirschklamm. Continue via the Oberbrunnalm and the Hochwald back to Scharnitz.
