Arrival by public transport
By train (S4) from Innsbruck to Steinach and then continue with bus 4144 until you arrive at the SChmirnKasern stop.
The new single trail leads from the Tuxer-Joch down to Kasern in the Schmirntal and thus facilitates the Transalp crossing from the Zillertal into the Schmirntal.
The route starts at the Alpengasthaus Kasern in Schmirn (you can also start from the Banhof St. Jodok). At the beginning, the route runs on a wide asphalt road that later turns into a gravel path. The entire MTB route leads with little incline to the Tettensbach stream shortly before the Kaserer Winkel. There are several shallow watercourses to cross, which have more or less water depending on the season.
There the shared trail begins (watch out for other hikers on the trail!). It lies on the border of the Tux and Zillertal Alps, connects the Schmirntal with the Tuxerjoch and offers magnificent views of the two mountain groups. The trail is ideal for classic Alpine crossings - it can be ridden in both directions! Technically challenging are the numerous, partly very narrow hairpin bends and some steep stitches in the terrain that have to be overcome. Good cornering technique is therefore important. The trail is very well developed, with a continuous width of over 1m and no major obstacles and is easy to ride.
