Description

From Gries Railway station/parking "Sattelberg", first follow the main road to Obernberg to Vinaders. Turn left behind GH Vinaders and drive up a narrow asphalt road past the church. After a good kilometre you come to a bend with barriers. Continue through the forest to the Sattelbergalm. At the hut you can take a break for a break. Follow the forest path which continues on the opposite side of the slope and climbs gently towards Brenner. A signpost marks the beginning of the push-pull track which branches off to the right and from here on leads up almost to the summit of the Sattelbergalm. Immediately before reaching the cross, on the last small ground, you have to turn off from the ascent path and follow a climb in southern direction - this leads to the beginning of the old military road. Unfortunately there is no signpost that tells you the exact spot, so if you are unsure, you can climb all the way up to the top and from there you can see the road clearly.
The following section along the border crest of the Brennerberge mountain range leads to the Flachjoch, where the cycle path leads over the Fradertal valley to Obernberg. The trail is quite steep, especially in the upper part.

Along the former military road there are many tunnels and old barracks, which may not be entered, but are definitely worth a closer look for those interested in history.
