03 Eiserne Hand Runde

Partly shady, partly on the sunny side, this loop runs from Fieberbrunn towards Hochfilzen. Accompanied by the gushing of the Schwarzache river and sunny passages at the foot of the Buchensteinwand.

Description

We start at the tourist office, cross the bridge behind the municipal office and follow the Fieberbrunner Ache eastwards for the next 4.6 km, always upstream (direction Hochfilzen). The trail leads along the Achenpromenade to the hamlet of Walchau. There we cross under the main road (B 164) and follow the first wide and then narrow gravel path along the Ache. After 2 km we reach the asphalt road towards "Eiserne Hand". Without turning off anywhere, we arrive at the romantic "Eiserne Hand" inn after another 2.4 km (4.6 mi). In a sharp bend to the left, we take a short, slight incline and then turn left into the hamlet of Rotrain. Take your time for a short panoramic view of this idyllic landscape. We pass the few houses of the hamlet and after a short up/down intermezzo come to the hamlet of "Pfaffenschwendt". There we keep to the left and set course again towards Fieberbrunn village centre. We are on the circular trail around the Buchensteinwand, pass the Pfaffenschwendter chapel, cross under the ÖBB railway tracks, see wonderful farmhouses to the left and right and after 7.6 km reach the crossroads in the hamlet of Buchau. Straight ahead between 2 farms we have gravel under our soles again. In a gentle uphill and downhill walk, always with the wonderful panorama of the Kitzbühel Alps and the majestic Kaiser Mountains in front of us, we soon reach our destination again in the hamlet of Schönau-Pertrach. At first easy and finally somewhat steeper downhill, the trail leads us under the ÖBB railway tracks back to the village centre in Fieberbrunn.
