Winter hiking in Fieberbrunn can be so full of contrasts: from the start in the village through peaceful snow-covered alpine pastures and forests to the realm of skiers and snowboarders at the foot of the Wildseeloder.
This medium-difficulty winter hike leads mostly through quiet forest and meadow sections with beautiful views of the Kitzbühel Alps around the Pletzergraben. Past the Lauchsee lake, the trail continues into the beautiful snow-covered alpine pastures of the Zillstattalm. Once in the ski area, there are two refreshment stops to choose from: the Streubödenalm and the Wildalpgatterl. With 550 meters of ascent and descent, the tour requires a good basic level of fitness. The route combines cleared asphalt sections with rolled winter paths, which can also be used with snowshoes. The gondola lift is a relaxed alternative for the return journey. Equipment such as waterproof, non-slip shoes and winter clothing suitable for the weather is recommended.
Start at the village center and pass the church into direction of lake "Lauchsee". Follow this road nearly to the "end" until you reach the farm "Schwarzhäusl". Here you turn left and follow the sign "Zillstatt / Streuböden". At the end of this winter walking path you reach the skiing area of Fieberbrunn. Here you cross the slope and walk either up to the restaurant Wildalpgatterl or down to the restaurant Streuböden.
Back you can take the same way, or you use the cable car (gondola) Streuböden. Then you walk from the station to the center of Fieberbrunn or you take the skibus (free!)
The hike is less demanding if you do it the other way round (take the gondola to Streuböden and return to the valley via Zillstatt). One way (centre - Zillstatt - Streuböden) 6.5 km.
Attention: ask at the Tourist Office (phone 0043.5354.56304) or at the Bergbahnen Fieberbrunn (phone 0043.5354.56333) if the way is open! In case of lot of snow there might be a danger of avalanches.
From the turn-off at the last farm from the asphalt road towards Zillstatt / Streuböden middle station, the rolled winter hiking trail is also easily accessible with snowshoes!
By bus: free bus service from Ellmau / Kitzbühel / St. Johann i.T. / Lofer and within the PillerseeTal region. Bus stop Fieberbrunn centre (Fieberbrunn Bergbahn). Free of charge with guest card.
By train: free train connection from Wörgl to Hochfilzen (regional trains) with guest card. Fieberbrunn railway station. Walking time to bus stop Fieberbrunn Rosenegg Steig B direction centre (Bergbahn) approx. 10 min.
