Description

From the hiking starting point at Wochenbrunner Alm, take trail no. 825 in the direction of Gruttenhütte. In the cool beech forest, turn right at the second junction onto Gamswegl trail no. 812a towards Gaudeamushütte. Follow a root path to the scree field where you come out of the forest. Here you already have a first view of the Gaudeamushütte diagonally opposite. Continuing uphill across the scree field, you reach the remains of the old Gaudeamushütte, which was hit by an avalanche in 1924. Three years later, it was rebuilt at its current location. You continue through the forest towards the Wilder Kaiser, cross a stream bed and later reach the alpine pasture above the hut. Here, the imposing Ellmauer Tor attracts everyone's attention. Keep to the right and your interim destination is already in sight after the crest. Enjoy the panorama and the culinary delights at the Gaudeamushütte. Then hike south from the terrace on trail no. 813. At the first sharp bend, turn right into the forest (wooden sign) and follow the “Wilderer-Steig” trail past the Anna Grotto and along the Goinger Bach stream to the Wochenbrunner Alm. The sun terrace invites you to enjoy a relaxing end to the tour.
