Description

Description:
This varied hiking route leads directly from the Austrian enclave of Jungholz into the Tannheimer Valley. Unlike a loop hike, the start and finish are in different locations—making it ideal for connecting two regions on foot.

From Jungholz, the route first leads over the Sorg Alpe 2 and then continues toward Unterjoch. The trail winds through the typical Allgäu and Tyrolean mountain landscape along pleasant paths before heading back into Austria and into the Tannheim Valley. Passing the Floschen near Schattwald, you’ll finally reach the church in Schattwald, which marks the end of the hike.

The special appeal of this tour lies in its connecting nature: You start in Jungholz, an Austrian enclave accessible only via German territory, and from there hike across the border directly into the Tannheimer Valley. This makes the journey itself an experience—a lovely alternative to traveling by car and a charming tour from A to B.

Directions:
The hike begins in Jungholz. From there, the route leads over the Sorg Alpe 2 down to Unterjoch. It then continues toward Schattwald, passing by the Floschen. Following the trail, you’ll eventually reach the church in the center of Schattwald—the destination of this hike in the Tannheimer Valley.

Tip:
Don't forget about the return trip! For example, you can take the bus back to Jungholz via Oberjoch.Equipment:
