With a population of 13,000, Wörgl is one of the largest municipalities in Tirol and lies at the point where the Inntal Valley widens and the Brixentaler Ache river flows into the larger Inn river.
Wörgl is considered the most important retail hub in the Tiroler Unterland. Excavations have revealed that this region has a long tradition of trade dating all the way back to the early Iron Age. The Romans also built a settlement on this site. Today, Wörgl is a fusion of modern architecture and old farmhouses, many of which can be found around the Kanzler-Biener-Straße road. As part of the Hohe Salve Holiday Region, Wörgl is the ideal starting point for many hikes and bike rides down in the valley or up onto the slopes of the Möslalmkogel and Hohen Salve (1,829 m) mountains, both of which offer fantastic views. In winter there is the nearby SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental, Austria’s largest interconnected ski area. Wörgl is also home to the Wörgler Wasserwelt adventure leisure centre with a selection of swimming pools, slides, saunas and steam baths.
