The most beautiful photo spots in Tyrol

Well, we'll reveal a few of our favourite photo locations in Tyrol. But not our very secret ones - you'll have to find them yourself. We love it when beautiful pictures from Tirol do the rounds on social media. But we also love our nature and ask you to show consideration for nature, especially in these sometimes crowded places. So these are our "most instagrammable places" of the Tyrolean picture book landscape.

The Highline is brilliant for showing off. Here you can prove just how brave you are. After all, not everyone dares to cross the 400-metre-long, 114-metre-high suspension bridge near Reutte. Whether against a dramatic backdrop of clouds, as a selfie or even photographed from below – the Highline179 suspension bridge near Reutte will take your feed to dizzying heights.

It’s got a real Norwegian feel to it. And as you’ll have noticed across all visual media, Norway isn’t exactly a bad place to take stunning nature photographs. The Plansee is our fjord, and the combination of a large blue-green lake framed by high mountains is a sure-fire recipe for atmospheric photo opportunities. And rumour has it that there are some particularly lovely spots here for hammocks.

The sky has gradually lost its bright blue hue; a few little clouds are turning into highlighter colours, mainly pink and orange. Beneath them lies the jagged skyline of the rocky Kalkkögel. And you get to see it twice over, as the small, shallow Salfainssee lake is the perfect mirror. Picture perfect! There you have it – the ideal calendar shot for your Instagram feed.

The Nockspitze, or Saile, is a popular mountain near Innsbruck offering stunning views – particularly for sunrise hikes. Whilst you and the summit are already being kissed awake by the first rays of the sun, Innsbruck, far below, still lies in shadow – a magnificent sight. The panoramic view of the Stubai Alps and Tux Alps, as well as the Karwendel, is also well worth seeing. From the Axamer Lizum, you can reach the Nockspitze with ease in around 2.5 hours.

Where urban architecture meets the Alpine mountain landscape, fascinating scenes inevitably emerge. Take, for example, the Hungerburgbahn top station, with its futuristic design. Or the view from the Seegrube, looking down on the whole of Innsbruck below and up at much of the Tirolean Alps above. The contrast reaches its peak at the Hafelekar, the highest point of the Nordkette. To the south lies Innsbruck, now resembling a miniature world, and to the north, the rugged wilderness of the Karwendel.

A picture-perfect scene from Innsbruck: the colourful house facades along the banks of the Inn, with the turquoise River Inn in the foreground and the (snow-capped) Nordkette in the background. Particularly beautiful in the morning or evening light. And which is the more beautiful range? In the photo, both certainly look their best: the row of houses in Mariahilf and the mountain skyline of the Karwendel-Nordkette.

The Großer Ahornboden is one of our greatest and most fascinating natural treasures. Over 2,000 ancient and gnarled sycamore maples are scattered across a grassy plain, flanked by the towering cliffs of the Karwendel Mountains. We still sometimes wonder why *The Lord of the Rings* wasn’t filmed here. Especially in autumn, when the maples turn a golden-orange hue, this is a wonderful spot for taking photos.

It’s probably the most popular photo spot in Tirol, featuring in countless Instagram feeds: standing on the suspension bridge not far from the Olpererhütte, you seem to be – well – suspended directly above the Schlegeis Reservoir. The architecturally striking mountain hut looks great in any photo on its own, as does the heart placed above it, symbolising togetherness and a love of the mountains. Either way, a visit to the Olpererhütte will do your feed a world of good.

The panoramic rooms, with their floor-to-ceiling windows and unbeatable views of the Lienzer Dolomiten, are the Dolomitenhütte’s Instagram highlight. Understandably, the waiting lists for the ‘Adlernest’ and ‘Adlerhorst’ rooms can sometimes be quite long. But it’s well worth the wait – there aren’t many places where you can wake up to a view like this! The Karlsbaderhütte is situated on the turquoise-blue Lake Laserz, amidst the jagged peaks of the Lienzer Dolomiten – a wonderful spot for taking photos.

We know from our own experience that photos of Alpine Pastures are particularly good at stirring up a sense of longing and earning smileys with heart-shaped eyes: ‘I’d love to be there right now!’. In Osttirol – already a destination like no other – there are two wonderfully picturesque alpine villages. A white chapel, surrounded by 18 listed, sun-bleached wooden huts, or the ‘Tibet of the Alps’, consisting of 15 stone Alpine Pasture Huts that are among the oldest Alpine Pasture Huts in Austria. We’re curious to see which Alpine Pasture gets the most heart emojis.

The Wildseeloder is a popular mountain for day trips near Fieberbrunn. However, you don’t necessarily have to reach the summit to find the most beautiful photo opportunities in the area. The climb to the picturesque Wildsee is cut short to 1.5 hours thanks to the Lärchfilzkogel cable car. The Wildseeloderhaus is situated right by the lake. If you’re staying overnight at the Wildseeloderhaus, it’s well worth getting up early to capture some particularly atmospheric photos.
