Attraction Großer Ahornboden

Eng

The Großer Ahornboden is one of those places that looks as though nature designed it with exceptional attention to detail. At the end of the Riß Valley, a magnificent natural stage unfolds: Framed by the rugged peaks of the Karwendel, some 2,000 ancient mountain maples stand in rows—gnarled giants that have watched over the Engalm for centuries. Especially in the fall, many visitors will describe the Großer Ahornboden as the most beautiful place in Tyrol.

We recommend because:

  • 2,000 ancient sycamore maples: Centuries-old giant trees define one of Tyrol’s most extraordinary landscapes.
  • A unique natural setting: Vast alpine meadows, the Engalm, and the rocky peaks of the Karwendel form an impressive panorama.
  • A nature experience without a long hike: The Großer Ahornboden is easily accessible and can be explored right away.
  • Golden autumn magic: When the leaves change color, it creates one of Tyrol’s most beautiful photo opportunities.
  • Experience alpine life up close: At the Engalm, tradition, regional specialties, and vibrant mountain culture come together.

Description

For many, the “Großer Ahornboden” natural monument is the very epitome of the Karwendel Mountains. Here, nature is both the stage and the performance: maple trees, meadows, cows, and mountains frame the ground on which you walk and stand, reducing everything to the essentials. This natural abundance, which stirs the senses, is almost humbling.

When comparing the top wellness oases in Austria by Omio, the vast Ahornbodenmade it to 8th place in the ranking!
