Lake Achensee, the largest lake in Tirol, is beautifully nestled between the Karwendel and Rofan mountain ranges. Its crystal-clear waters and accessible shores make it a paradise for water sports enthusiasts.
With its deep blue waters and majestic mountain backdrop, the lake often resembles a Norwegian fjord. The villages of Achenkirch, Maurach, and Pertisau line its shores. With its favourable wind conditions, Lake Achensee attracts those interested in sailing, kiteboarding, and windsurfing, while the Achenseeschifffahrt offers tranquil boat cruises to take in the breathtaking scenery. The excellent water quality and visibility of up to 10 metres underwater make this glacial lake a natural attraction and a popular swimming spot.
First, take the train to Jenbach station, which is connected to the international rail network. From there, buses (lines 8332 and 4080) run regularly to the villages of Achenkirch, Maurach and Pertisau. Bus times are well coordinated with train timetables. More details on how to get here.
