Attraction Chapel Martes

Seefeld

The Martes Chapel in Mösern is a wayside chapel built in 1905 in Mösern.

Description

Between Mösern and Seefeld stands a small, quiet wayside chapel. Built in 1905 by Nikolaus Spiegel from Mösern, the chapel commemorates his son, who tragically lost his life at this very spot. Two inscription plaques inside still hold this fate today, turning the place into a spot for reflection. The masonry structure is distinguished by its characteristic, overhanging gable roof, supported by simple wooden columns. In the segmentally arched niche stands an impressive figure of Christ from the 19th century, which gives the small building a special presence. Over the years, the chapel has been maintained and cared for by various families from Mösern. In 2025, it underwent a careful renovation, allowing it to shine anew today. The name "Marte," which appears in connection with the chapel, actually derives from the old farmhouse name of the present Pension Spiegel, even though ownership has changed several times since its construction.
