Attraction Chapel "Stoanernes Bild" or Stundkapelle

The Stundkapelle is located at the foot of the castle hill near the chalk pit on the B177.

Description

As part of the road construction at Schlossberg, the chapel "Stoanernes Bild" was demolished in 1974. The depiction "Madonna with Child" inside it was removed and secured. For the newly constructed chapel, this Marian image was faithfully copied by the Erwin Schwenniger family. The depiction is one of the most common representations of Mary in Tyrol and is based on an original by Lucas Cranach in the Innsbruck Cathedral.

The name "Stoanernes Bild" refers to boundary stones. The northern border of Tyrol was gradually shifted northward to the current national border. In Scharnitz, the chapel is known as the Stundkapelle because it is a one-hour walk from Scharnitz.
