Attraction Marien Chapel at Schlossberg

Seefeld

Marien Chapel at Schlossberg in Seefeld.

Description

The small chapel at what was once the highest point of the historic "Roman road" was attached to a newly constructed residential building during the construction of the bypass road. From here, the Roman road continued northward – a section is still recognizable behind the chapel today.

During a later renovation of the house, the chapel was moved again and carefully integrated into its current form. Despite these changes, it has preserved its special character, harboring an unusual treasure within.

Inside, there is a Gothic Madonna, surrounded by a mysterious story: According to the tradition of Toni Hiltpolt Senior, the figure was discovered after a fierce storm under a tree struck by lightning at Shlagsattel. To this day, it remains unclear how it ended up there. Is it a relic of an ancient tree sanctuary? Or was the Madonna hidden there in troubled times to protect it from enemies?
