Discover Landeck Castle with its local history museum, the Schlossgalerie and its events.
Landeck Castle is situated on the Via Claudia Augusta and was probably built in the first half of the 13th century on the towering rock above the River Inn by the Counts of Ulten, and later extended by Count Meinhard II of Tyrol-Gorizia. By 1282, it was already the seat of the Landeck court, with a princely administrator. The castle enjoyed its heyday under the Knights of Schrofenstein.
Museum
Today, the castle is the landmark of Landeck, a popular events and cultural centre which houses a permanent exhibition on local history in a ‘local history museum with a difference’. It tells the story of life ‘at home’ and ‘abroad’. Fifteen themed rooms bring fascinating and interesting facts to life through original objects and documents.
Gallery
Exhibitions by contemporary artists – both regional and international – as well as exhibitions on current, interesting and historical topics invite visitors to take a stroll through the gallery.
Landeck Castle also offers a special programme for children. Special events are held here during the Christmas season.
