Description

Carefully-selected exhibits, installations in film and sound illustrate local history covering the time from bronze-age mining around 1000 BC, to Kitzbühel’s development as a town and winter-sports centre with Toni Sailer and the legendary Kitzbühel Dream Team of the 1950s.

The museum’s permanent exhibition focuses on Alfons Walde. Works by the Kitzbühel artist, including 60 paintings and over 100 drawings, photographs and graphic designs are on show in an area comprising 250²m.

In the 1930s the Alfons Walde Collection at Kitzbühel Museum was housed in the one-time municipal granary as part of the local Folk Museum. The museum owes its current appearance to renovations and extensions undertaken between 1995 and 2002. During the course of this work, the southwest tower, which had formed part of the town’s medieval fortifications, was incorporated into the museum.
