Event Ceremonial Cattle Drive at Hohe Salve

When the cows return from the alpine pastures to the valley in the fall, Hopfgarten, Kelchsau, and Itter come alive with festive celebrations. Decorated cows, music, traditional costumes, and regional specialties accompany the traditional cattle drive through the three communities in a single day.

Three villages at the foot of the Hohe Salve come together to celebrate their cattle in style. Of course, there are magnificent colorful decorations, music, and food stands—just as it should be. Already on the eve of the cattle drive, a big celebration takes place at the “Tyrolean Evening” in Hopfgarten, featuring Tyrolean music and dance performances. On the day of the cattle drive, you can witness the procession of elaborately decorated cattle through three villages—Hopfgarten, Kelchsau, and Itter. You’ll also enjoy a convivial atmosphere as you stroll through farmers’ markets and sample regional delicacies.
